TROPHY SIZE WILD brown trout on this
clear-water stream only an hour south of
Reykjavik. The brown trout that inhabit our
river are some of the largest in the country
- the largest specimen taken in 2001- 2005
had an estimated weight of 22 lbs! However,
the average weight of fish is a more modest
2 to 7 lbs.
Fishing
takes place on about 7 km of river, which
takes no more than 4 rods per day. Fishing
is with fly-only and many anglers practice
catch-and-release, although it is permitted
to take the occasional fish for the table.
The most successful fly patterns are dark
nymphs, weighted and unweighted, on hooks
size 8 to 12. Dry-fly fishing has proved to
be very productive on this river, unlike
many other Icelandic streams.
Fishing may be booked as a fully-serviced
package, or as self-catering. The season
runs from 1 May to 30 September.

The new lodge,
situated next to the river, has proved very
popular with our clients. It sits on a bend
in the river,
right next to
one of the best pools and with a magnificent
view
to Mt. Hekla in the
distance. There are four twin-bedrooms, two
bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, dining
room, sitting room, and a veranda with a
hotpot. The river is let on a self-catering
or fully serviced basis.
