IN COOPERATION
with Angling Club Strengir we are proud to offer for the first time
the Grenlækur river on the south-east coast of Iceland. It is one of
the country´s best sea-trout rivers and we are fortunate to be able to
fish the very popular Beat 5, "Seglbudir" (four rods). The water is
crystal clear and the river is set in astonishingly beautiful lava
surroundings.
Fishing is
from 17 June to 10 October. The fish are sea-run brown trout which
average 3 to 6 lbs; some pools also have resident browns. Prime time
is late summer and autumn. A considerable quantity of good size char
are also present, expecially in mid-summer, and the occasional salmon.
Anglers may keep three fish per rod per day, then practise
catch-and-release. Floating or slow-sinking lines are mostly used, as
the clear water makes the pools very sensitive.

A superb lodge
is being built for the 2002 season. It has four twin-bedrooms with
en-suite bathrooms, a comfortable sitting room overlooking the river,
plus sauna and hot pot outside.
Grenlækur is
the perfect location for small groups looking for fishing with a
comfortable, private lodge as a base. It is an ideal combination with
Breiddalsá, being situated about half-way between there and Reykjavik.
